Why was it invented? |
In the mid-early 1800's during the industrial revolution, textiles where a huge industry. There were many textile factories and in order for the textiles (clothing, or woven fabric) to be created there was many hours of physical labor involved. In order to increase efficiency of the products the idea of the sewing machine came into play. This would eliminate the physical of sewing and allow for more products to be produced resulting in more products sold and more profit. This idea became a reality on September 10, 1846 when Elias Howe invented the first Sewing machine.

The Main reasons the invention of the Sewing machine came to be is because of money and labor. With a machine there would no longer be a need for sewing by hand. There would also be the result of greater profits due to the increase in the speed of production. The sewing machine also allows for textiles to be made that pre sewing machine would have to be traded for. Overall it opened a whole new world for textiles.
